Yakub Nestor

As we say hello to April, we also say hello to Yakub Nestor, our highlight for our Youth of the Month segment.

Meet 26-year-old Yakub Nestor from the community of Resinard (Garrand Babonneau). A goal-driven and ambitious young man, Yakub is currently the CARICOM Youth Ambassador, 2020-2021 Youth Parliamentarian for Babonneau, the 2nd Vice President for the Castries Central Youth and Sports Council, serves on the Youth Development Committee for the Babonneau Youth and Sports Council, and was the former Youth Ambassador under the NYC-Youth Ambassadors Network.

A past student of Entrepot Secondary School, Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (Business Division) and Edinburgh Napier University (Bachelor’s in Business Management and Post Grad in Career Guidance and Development) and further studies with University of the West Indies. Yakub holds many diplomas in various societal issues and youth developments because he believes, to foster change, one must be willing to learn and have an open mind to the world around us. He enjoys anything to do with youth work, volunteering, learning, teaching, development and wildlife conservation.

Yakub has represented St. Lucia and regional bodies on a regional and international stage especially when it comes to the rights of minority groups, education, gender-based violence, human and women rights. He currently sits on the regional youth board, YPL, and works with TLC when it comes to young persons affected by HIV as a certified VCT. He has always been keen on education and how it impacts the lives of others and it is for this humble reason he is currently a Vision and Education Support Teacher attached to the St. Lucia Blind Welfare Association working with kids who are low vision, blind and those in the mainstream schooling environment. He is a very loyal, talented, and caring teacher and youth worker who loves making a difference in the lives of young children.

Yakub is open-minded, patient, and supportive towards other people, especially towards children or those who suffer from disabilities.

Experienced in guiding young adults from various backgrounds and helping them to overcome their personal obstacles to achieve their goals and unlocking their potential, Yakub is able to connect with children and the youth to lead them to focus on developing their personal habits and scholastic abilities. His goal is to foster positive change in those around him as well as learning and sharing whatever skills and knowledge he has amassed.

As a well rounded individual, this youth leader and activist is just getting started.
