Rahym Augustin-Joseph

May is well underway and we want to highlight yet another deserving youth.

On the surface, Rahym Ron Augustin-Joseph is often referred to as a visionary youth leader, advocate, public speaker and debater who is bound to achieve great things in the future by virtue of his ability to create environments which prompt change for those, he is likely to meet along his voyage. Rahym Augustin-Joseph is a Samarian who once served as a School Prefect and U19 Cricket Captain. Upon his exit from the St. Mary’s College, he attained the most coveted Spirit of St. Mary’s College Award along with Most Effective House Captain of the Year, Public Speaking and Debating Award and Cricketer of the Year. In that same year, he received the National Award for Youth Emerging Cricketer of the Year and continues to play cricket at the highest division in Saint Lucia.


Mr. Rahym Augustin-Joseph is a former student of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College who pursued studies in the areas of Law, History, Sociology and Caribbean Studied and served as the Valedictorian of the 33rd Graduation Exercise, where he spoke to the need for students to appreciate the journey as part of the process. During this ceremony, Rahym also received the awards for Law, History and Sociology.


A national and regional public speaker, Mr. Augustin has been recognized for his ability as early as 2016 when he participated in the National Tourism Public Speaking Competition, moving on to become Chairman of this very competition in the following year. In the year 2018 & 2019 Mr. Augustin emerged as the Best Speaker of the Finals and Overall Best Speaker of the Windward Islands Debating Competition.


In the year 2019 Mr. Augustin went on to gain the leading edge as he captured the title of winner at the annually held Commonwealth Youth Peace Ambassadors Network Discourse, speaking to the adoption of a paradigm shift as we mainstream the sustainable development goals for peace, prosperity, people, planet and profit. Thereafter Mr. Augustin was presented with an opportunity to represent Saint Lucia at the 8th Annual Economic and Social Council Youth Forum at the United Nations.


A Student Leader, Change Agent and Advocate for all things Education, Law, Youth Development and Sustainable Development, Mr. Augustin has received awards and recognition across many disciplines. More recently Mr. Augustin was appointed to the positions of Program Director and Chair Person of the Constitutional Reform Committee of the Saint Lucia National Youth Council where he seeks to improve the enabling environment, systems and structures of the leading Youth representative body. The Saint Lucia National Youth Council has also appointed Mr. Augustin to the post of Communications Director for the annually head Caribbean Youth Conference.

Recently, Mr. Augustin also received the honor of Chairing the Saint Lucia National Youth Parliament Committee where he seeks provide a platform for young people to be actively involved in parliamentary democracy; with a goal of institutionalizing the Saint Lucia National Youth Parliament as a means of holistic youth development.


Rahym is currently a student of Politics and Law at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus after he was awarded the Sir Arthur Lewis Award for OECS Nationals. Since his entrance at the UWI, Rahym has invoked his presence in campus life, while ensuring he continues to play cricket and maintaining academic pedigree. He was recently awarded a Dean’s List Place and contested the UWI Cave Hill Guild Elections where he emerged victorious as the Sir Frank Worrell Hall Representative on the Guild of Students 2021-2022. In this position, he pledges to ensure resilient, responsive leadership which focuses on holistically developing residents through the engagement of educational and social programmes. In the near future, Mr. Augustin aims to become an Attorney at Law and he premises himself on the mission statement that one can dare to dream but must equally be

determined to deliver. Mr. Augustin-Joseph’s work is bound to that belief.
